On 28 February 2014 “The Memorial in commemoration of Famines’ Victims in Ukraine” National Museum presented a new exhibition “UKRAINE HAS UPRISEN!”, dedicated to the events of November 2013 –February 2014 in Ukraine.
The guests and visitors had a chance to see the original photos, videomaterials and sorts of information about the perished ones. The photos were kindly provided by the well-known photographers Ivan Bohdan, Oleksandr Ratushnyak and others.
1On 19 February 2014, pursuant to the cooperation agreement with the Museum of the occupation of Latvia 1940-1991 “The Latvian Tragedy. 1941” exhibition was presented at the Hall of Memory.
The purpose of the exhibition is to show different kinds of repressions of the Communist and Nazi regimes. Nearly 100.000 people were affected by the policy of two occupant countries which were deliberately trying to destroy the political, cultural, economic and military elite of Latvia.
Mr. Viktor Didenko, Director General of “The Memorial in Commemoration of Famines’ Victims in Ukraine” National Museum, stressed that the exhibition is of great current interest as it reminds of the events of 18-21 February 2014 in Ukraine when Ukrainians fought against modern totalitarianism.
On November 18, 2013, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the National Museum “Memorial in Commemoration of Famine`s Victims in Ukraine” during a state visit to Ukraine.
Guest of honour commemorated famine victims in Ukraine by installing a composition of guilder-rose and ears of corn in to the sculpture “The Bitter Memory of Childhood”.
Ilham Aliyev viewed the territory of the Memorial with a guide and got acquainted with Museum’s activity.
At 2 p.m. on October 23, 2013, the presentation of exhibition “Genocide of the Ukrainian People: World Response” and debates on the topic were held at Memory Hall of National Museum “Memorial in Commemoration of Famine`s Victims in Ukraine”.
Dr. V. Marochko, PhD, O. Ushyns'kyi, chief executive at Holodomor Research Association, researchers from archival and scientific institutions, and students took part in exhibition opening.
On October 21, 2013, the President of Czech Republic Miloš Zeman visited the National Museum “Memorial in Commemoration of Famine`s Victims in Ukraine” during a state visit to Ukraine. Guest of honour installed an emblematic composition of guilder-rose, ears of corn, and a lit icon-lamp to the sculpture “The Bitter Memory of Childhood”. Then, Mr. Zeman commemorated famine victims with a minute of silence.
The President of Czech Republic and his entourage also viewed the territory of the Memorial.
